Logging in and Signing up

1. I can’t login to the participant pool site, and it’s giving me a “Warning” message. What should I do?

Login information is created largely during the first 2 weeks of the semester; try again after Add/Drop ends. New login information has to be created even if you participated in the participant pool in a previous semester.

If the Add/Drop period has ended, please try the following:

  1. Did you add the class late? Your name might not be in the system. If so, please contact the participant pool administrators at uconnpsychologyparticipantpool@gmail.com.
  2. Did you check your email (including your SPAM folders) for an email from Sona that has your login credentials?
  3. Are you using the correct login (i.e. the first part of your UConn email address  – before the @ symbol – in all lowercase) and password (exactly as it appears on the initial email you received from Sona)? Note that upon your first login, Sona will ask you reset your password from the temporary one it assigned to you.
  4. If none of the above solves the issue, then you can enter the Participant Pool through this link, https://uconnpsych.sona-systems.com/, and click the Forgot Password? link on the right to reset your password. This should initiate an email to you with a new password.

2. I’m having difficulty finding available studies.

New studies are added as the semester progresses. Additionally, as students meet their study requirements, the number of students “competing” for available sessions reduces, and your chances of finding a session increases. You are encouraged to continue looking for sessions on a regular basis.

3. When my friend logs into her participant pool account, there are more available studies. Why aren’t all of the studies showing up for me?

Some studies only appear to eligible students (e.g., bilingual students, right-handed students, etc.) based on the responses provided in the Prescreening Questionnaire.

4. The participant pool site won’t let me sign up for an online study.

You are capped at participating in 4 credits of online studies. If you have reached this limit, or if signing up for the study will put you over this limit, the system will not allow you to participate.

5. The participant pool site won’t let me sign up for any studies.

You have likely been locked out of the system because you have two no-shows. (Remember, a cancellation less than 24 hours prior your appointment time will result in a no-show.) You may complete a No-Show Dispute Form to attempt to rectify the situation.

Accidental Sign-Ups

6. I accidentally signed up for the wrong study time. I canceled it immediately, but now I have a no-show. How do I get the no-show removed?

The participant pool site allows students to sign up for an appointment less than 24 hours in advance. Unfortunately, immediate cancellation of that same appointment will result in a no-show. First, email the researcher about the cancellation. Then, complete a No-Show Dispute Form; select option 2 as the reason for your dispute.

7. I accidentally signed up for the wrong study time. The appointment is less than 24 hours away, and I want to avoid receiving a no-show for canceling it. What should I do?

Cancel the appointment, then follow the steps outlined above in question 6.

8. I accidentally signed up for the wrong study time. Now, I can’t sign up for the same study at a different time. Can this be fixed?

No, if you have a no-show for that study (or are already signed up), you will be unable to sign up for a different time until the no-show is resolved with a No-Show Dispute Form.

Absent Researcher

9. I went to a study, but no one was there. How do I get credit?

Are you sure that you had the correct date, time, and location? Did you wait at least 10 minutes to allow for another appointment running late? If the answers are yes, you may complete an Absent Researcher Form to attempt to rectify the situation. Once the Participant Pool Coordinator confirms that the researcher was absent, you will receive credit for the study.

Problems with Credits Awarded

10. I took the Prescreening Questionnaire, but the credit is not appearing in my account.

The data for is being stored, and it will be synced with your account after the close of Add/Drop.

11. I attended a study and was supposed to receive X credits, but I only received Y credits. How do I correct this discrepancy?

You may complete a Credit Correction Form to attempt to rectify the situation.

12. I attended a study, but still have not received credit for it.

researchers are supposed to put in the number of credits you’ve earned within 24 hours. If the credits earned is still blank after a few days, you may complete a Credit Correction Form to attempt to rectify the situation.

13. My account says that I received 0 credits for a study. What does this mean?

Zero credits (0) is different than a no-show (ns) and may be given for several reasons (e.g., the cancellation of a study, resolution of a no-show dispute, etc.). Being given zero credits neither benefits you nor penalizes you; it’s as if you had never signed up for the study. If you believe that 0 credits has been given to you in error, you may fill out a Credit Correction Form.

No-Shows

14. I have a no-show (ns). Is there anything I can do to have it removed?

There is no penalty for 1 no-show. However, after 2 no-shows, you will be locked out of the system and unable to sign up for any more studies. If desired, you may complete a No-Show Dispute Form to attempt to rectify the situation.

15. I have 2 no-shows (ns), and now I’m locked out of the system. Can I get let back in?

Depending on the reasons for the no-shows, you may complete a No-Show Dispute Form to attempt to rectify the situation. You may continue to attend any existing studyal appointments.

If you do not have a valid excuse for your no-shows, you will be considered to have opted out of the study participation requirement and will remain locked-out for the remainder of the term.
